Cancer Care Co-Ordinator for Learning Disabilities and Autism
We have a dedicated Cancer Care Coordinator focused on raising cancer awareness among individuals with learning disabilities and those who are autistic.
Our Cancer Care Coordinator collaborates with BHG practices and various organisations, including Swindon Borough Council, Swindon Advocacy Movement, Wyvern Health Partnership, Macmillan, Swindon & Gloucester MIND, and many more!
The goal is to work with individuals and their families/carers to normalise cancer conversations and encourage participation in cervical, bowel, and breast cancer screening programs.
Our Cancer Care Coordinator works with people with lived experiences to collaborate on projects that raise awareness of other cancer types, their symptoms, treatments, HPV vaccinations, hospital/healthcare passports and reasonable adjustments. This effort aims to make healthcare more accessible and reduce barriers.
While the job title states Cancer Care Coordinator (CCC) for Learning Disabilities and Autism, and part of the focus is on cancer screening, our CCC also works to enhance communication and collaboration between practices and their autistic patients/ patients with a learning disability. This includes ensuring that accessible information and reasonable adjustments are provided by healthcare organisations.
