Reasonable adjustments are changes which mean people with a disability can access the healthcare they need.
They are a legal requirement for GP practices to offer and implement for patients that require them.
These adjustments help ensure effective communication and collaboration between practices and their patients with a learning disability and/or autistic patients, ensuring accessible information and reasonable adjustments are provided.
Examples of reasonable adjustments may include:
- longer appointments
- a quiet space available while waiting
- extra time during phone conversations to ensure you feel listened to
- clear, simple, and possibly repeated explanations of treatments and procedures
- Easy read information (if applicable)
- making sure there is good access for people who use a wheelchair in the surgery
