Steam COVID Vaccination Centre
Following approval of the Pfizer vaccine by the MRHA and other subsequent approved vaccines. Primary Care needed to take a key role in the mass vaccination programme for the UK. For Swindon and Shrivenham, the Brunel Health Group moved at speed to find the best venue. After an extensive search we secured the use of Steam Museum’s Great Western Hall in mid-November 2020.
With the kind help of our partners at Steam Museum and Swindon Borough Council, Brunel Health Group equipped the hall, designed the solution, organised staff and volunteers and was ready to vaccinate our first patients as part of the national wave one roll out on the 16th December 2020. Since then, the Brunel Health Group has expanded the clinics to run regularly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (with some additional clinics on Sundays when vaccine supply allows). The Steam Museum site is an ideal space; centrally located with excellent facilities suited to be utilised as a large vaccine centre. Using the Steam museum site, the Brunel Health Group team is capable of delivering 300 vaccinations an hour making it one of the largest capacity sites in the country. The Wyvern Health Partnership joined Brunel in using the Steam Museum in January 2021 to vaccinate their patients, running regular clinics on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In addition to the vaccination programme at the Steam Museum, the Brunel Health Group has also been working tirelessly in the community to provide Covid vaccinations to our housebound patients and care home residents across Swindon and Shrivenham.
